About company Barovier&Toso

Barovier&Toso is one of the oldest brands in Italy. Its history dates back to Venice in the XIII century, when a member of the Barovier family opened his own production. Angelo Barovier (1405-1461) was the first to create vetro cristallino - absolutely transparent Venetian glass using crystalline glass technology, which became world famous. He was the first among his compatriots to adopt from the Syrians the painting of glass with multicolor enamel and gold. In the same period of time Barovier Wedding Cup appeared - a benchmark of Murano Renaissance art, one of the iconic creations of Barovier Toso. The Barovier&Toso factory is not just a branch of an ancient Italian dynasty of Venetian glassmakers, it is the oldest dynasty in existence. And this brand is officially registered in the Guinness Book of Records as having the longest history of all Murano long-livers. In the twentieth century, a huge contribution to the prestige of the factory was made by Ercole Barovier, who became the director and chief designer of Barovier, merged by that time with Toso - another famous “Murano” family. He set the company the task of combining seemingly incompatible things - modernization of the working process and the ancient traditions of glassmaking.
